Most NFL players sit back and let the front office handle free agency, tweeting out congratulatory messages to players once they've signed. New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has bucked that trend, taking to Twitter to campaign for who he wants the Jets to sign, while also recruiting the individual players by tagging them in the tweets. He has sent out tweets suggesting the Jets sign safety Reggie Nelson and wide receiver Braylon Edwards, among others.
Antonio Cromartie is making his voice heard, as his tweets are getting a ton of interaction from his followers. He's also responding to the news snippets given out by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, giving a running commentary on what's happening for the Jets so far in free agency. Cromartie has also been very supportive of Eric Smith.
Cromartie was asked by one of his followers if he would want the Jets to sign LaRon Landry and said no, saying Reggie Nelson is better in coverage. He congratulated Brodney Pool on signing with the Dallas Cowboys, and was happy to hear that the Jets are bringing in Nelson for a visit tomorrow.
Cromartie isn't the only one on Twitter. When D'Brickashaw Ferguson heard that Mario Williams signed with the Buffalo Bills, he tweeted, "Congrats to Mario, now he has to face us twice a year. I like our odds. Go Jets!"
It's cool that Cromartie is showing enthusiasm and recruiting some free agents. Then again, if Landry were to become a Jet and someone tells him about Cromartie's comment that he can't cover, it might lead to an awkward conversation between the two. Cromartie is giving us a chance to see his personality a bit and he is openly campaigning for some of his old teammates to be back in green and white. Most Jets fans would love to forget about 2011 and just go back to that season and that team.
