New York Jets minicamp opens today and Jets head coach Rex Ryan kicked things off with a press conference at 10:30 this morning. The biggest news was the first real injury report of the season, including Santonio Holmes, Stephen Hill and others. The Jets already have quite a list of players that won't be able to participate on the field today.
Rex Ryan announced in his press conference at New York Jets minicamp this morning that Santonio Holmes will probably sit out today and will be monitored by the training staff due to a hamstring injury. Remember when everyone made him into a villain for being frustrated with what he deemed overuse last week after his trip to Germany?
Stephen Hill, who sat out of an OTA last week due to a hamstring issue will also sit out today. Bilal Powell will also be sitting out with a hamstring injury. The Jets want to make sure they get healthy now and hamstring injuries have a knack of lingering if not taken care of right away.
Bryan Thomas is still recovering from the Achilles tendon injury he suffered last season and will sit out team drills today. Jeff Cumberland, Jeremy Kerley, Patrick Turner, Brandon Moore, Matt Slauson and Royce Pollard will all be limited, but are expected to participate. Matthias Berning will sit out of practice today with a knee injury.
Finally, Rex Ryan made it clear that LaRon Landry will not participate in drills on the practice field today. That already seemed pretty clear given the timetable for his return, so no surprise there.
