New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan appeared on FOX & Friends this morning to talk about his weight loss as well as the Jets' quarterback situation with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow. Rex Ryan was very candid when talking about both topics, giving those watching an opportunity to see the real Rex Ryan and openly speaking about one of the more interesting stories surrounding the Jets this season.
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan appeared on FOX & Friends this morning to talk Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez and his weight loss. Typically we get to see and hear owner Woody Johnson on FOX from time to time, but today we got to see Rex Ryan make a television appearance and talk openly about some topics that are very important to him: his health and his football team.
The Tim Tebow issue is an important one today especially, as a report that Tim Tebow will be used in the red zone has somehow sent many into a frenzy.
"Well I think when we look at it the first two years we had more success on offense and we had a guy named Brad Smith who we lost to Buffalo last year did a tremendous job for us running the wildcat offense. The guy that really invented the wildcat or brought the wildcat to the National Football League was Tony Sparano our offensive coordinator. I've been a big believer in it, I know how difficult it is to defend. It makes you play eleven on eleven and the best wildcat quarterback in football is Tim Tebow. Now he is a young man that can play quarterback every down for you but we have our starting quarterback in Mark Sanchez. We feel great about him. And all I say about Tim Tebow is he is an outstanding football player and I think he is really going to help our team."
One of the things those against the acquisition of Tim Tebow have cried about is the pressure to get him in the game. Here's Rex Ryan's take on that:
"My job is to win games, so that's whatever that means. The pressure is I just want to win, that's what our fans want more than anything else is to win and that's my charge."
Rex Ryan on his weight loss:
"I have, I am down 105 pounds from where I was, I was 348 pounds at one time. Luckily through this lap-band procedure that I had, it's really worked and you know when you lose that much weight it's amazing, you look better, you feel better. And as Tim Tebow said in his first interview I'm excited to get this thing going."
Rex continued, saying that he can't wait to show off his new physique:
"I want to be the Rex Ryan that wins. To me, I did this for health reasons. You know, I've been married for 25 years it wasn't like I was trying to slim down for other reasons…I do look a lot better now. If you lose 100 pounds you're going to look better. But the reason I did it was for health, low blood pressure, low cholesterol, all that kind of stuff and I am ready to attack this season."
"Well hopefully people will do a lot of it. Hopefully a lot of Jet fans will do this Tebow thing as well."
There's Rex Ryan and his New York Jets, in his own words. We know Rex is a confident coach and he speaks enough that he doesn't need others to be a mouthpiece for him. Maybe before everyone goes crazy over a report from a "source" we should listen to what Rex Ryan has to say about his team.
