Mike DeVito and Yeremiah Bell will be out tonight for the New York Jets when they take on the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium. Their absence will create an opportunity for two rookies, 2012 NFL Draft picks Quinton Coples and Josh Bush. Both will get a chance to start as a result of the injuries to the veterans ahead of them, with a lot of playing time on tap for each tonight.

Yeremiah Bell and Mike DeVito will be inactive for the New York Jets tonight, inserting rookies Josh Bush and Quinton Coples into the starting lineup. With the starters expected to see extensive playing time tonight, in some respects it's a good time for Quinton Coples and Josh Bush to start. We should get a great look at how they can fit into Rex Ryan's defense this season.

Sione Pouha will also be out tonight, with Kenrick Ellis taking his place. It will be a sneak preview at what the Jets hope is their future on defense, with Quinton Coples, Kenrick Ellis and Muhammad Wilkerson in the trenches. Going against a strong rushing attack and an explosive quarterback in Cam Newton, it will be a good test for the youngsters on the defensive line.

The Carolina Panthers will be a good test for the defense overall. Even without Steve Smith, they present some unique issues that will stress the defense. We will get a good feel tonight for some of the depth at critical positions for Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine. How the defensive line holds up against Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, Mike Tolbert and Cam Newton will tell a lot about whether they can be expected to contribute this season. A solid rotation on the defensive line is a huge boost to any defense.
