The New York Jets suffered a major scare yesterday when cornerback Darrelle Revis went down with a knee injury during their 23-20 overtime win against the Miami Dolphins. Darrelle Revis went for an MRI this morning and has a torn ACL in his left knee. Darrelle Revis is out for the rest of the 2012 season.
New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. The Jets will now have to scramble defensively after losing their centerpiece, as Darrelle Revis is an essential piece of everything the Jets do on defense. Rex Ryan is going to be forced to really earn his money if the Jets hope to field an elite defense this season.
Darrelle Revis is the best player on the Jets and what he is able to do against the best wide receivers in the NFL allows Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine a ton of freedom when calling the Jets defense. Without Darrelle Revis, the Jets will be forced to be a bit more aggressive in trying to get to the quarterback, and their deficiencies in terms of generating a pass rush will be underscored. Expect Kyle Wilson to step into the starting lineup across from Antonio Cromartie.
Every NFL team has to deal with injuries, but losing a player like Darrelle Revis can be devastating. How the Jets rebound will be a testament to what kind of depth they have, their resolve and the ability of Rex Ryan and his staff to overcome adversity and keep this team together. There will be plenty of people that will expect the Jets to fold with this news. The next step is to see how the Jets plan to overcome this obstacle.
