Well it's only mid-week and the New York Jets have seemingly made as many roster moves as usually occurs right at the time the roster is trimmed down to 53. We will tally up all the comings and goings, which includes the already mentioned signing of wide receiver Jason Hill to replace Santonio Holmes, who has been placed on injured reserve.
Last week the New York Jets brought on board former Texans practice squad running back Jonathan Grimes, but he was inactive versus the 49ers. On Monday the Jets added veteran fullback Lex Hilliard, formerly of the Dolphins and Vikings, because the injury to John Conner limited him to about a half dozen plays on Sunday, and he will likely be out Monday night. Staying on the offensive side of the ball, tight end Dedrick Epps was released in an injury settlement, and wide receiver Patrick Turner, who also saw very limited action Sunday, was let go again. There was only one major change on defense with the addition of Aaron Berry, formerly of the Lions, at cornerback. Hopefully his on the field play will grossly overshadow his off the field issues, or he could disappear as quickly as he came.
The practice squad of the Jets was not immune to change either. Offensive tackle Dennis Landolt was added after being released from the 53 man roster. Paul Cornick was let go to make room for Landolt. Cornerback Donnie Fletcher was also back on the waiver wire, as the Jets now favored Darrin Walls at cornerback. Wide receiver Jordan White was again added back to the squad, continuing his yo-yo season so far there. We believe many Jets fans, myself included, want to see White get a chance on the active roster sooner than later, especially with Holmes done for the year.
The real remaining issue is the gorilla in the room, which is to keep Darrelle Revis inactive throughout the remainder of the regular season. That would mean tying up his roster spot for the next 12 weeks of games, in hopes that the Jets will be a playoff team and he can return sometime during the Super Bowl tournament. That remains a big IF, unless the Jets can get back on track.
