The New York Jets enter this weekend's game against the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium facing what could be considered a must-win early in the season. Next week the Jets visit the New England Patriots before hosting the Miami Dolphins, then finally the bye week in week nine to split their schedule in half. A win this weekend gives the Jets a good shot to enter the bye week at 4-4, whereas a loss could sent them into a dangerous tailspin. Luckily for the Jets, they are starting to get some players returning from injury, such as Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill.
The New York Jets will be playing shorthanded for the rest of the 2012 regular season, without their two most-talented players in Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes. Without Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill, the Jets have taken an even bigger hit on offense. Both players are expected to return for this weekend's game versus the Indianapolis Colts, hopefully providing some much needed punch to the offense.
The return of Dustin Keller should be very welcome news for Mark Sanchez, with Dustin Keller serving as his security blanket throughout his career. His return will push Jeff Cumberland into the second tight end spot, but Cumberland should still be involved fairly heavily in the offensive plans for this weekend. Jeff Cumberland should get some more favorable matchups with more attention being paid to Dustin Keller.
Stephen Hill has been inconsistent in the games he has played so far as a rookie, but his physical talent makes him a threat. Defenses have to account for a 6-4, 215 wide receiver with elite speed. That should open up things for the other Jets receivers and push safety help over to his side, opening up some throwing windows for Mark Sanchez.
More weapons means more ways to exploit opposing defenses. The Jets are far from an offensive juggernaut, but every upgrade helps and Stephen Hill and Dustin Keller represent two big upgrades over what the team trotted out onto the filed in their 23-17 loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night. If Tony Sparano can conjure up some magic, the Jets just might be able to get back on the winning track and make next week's game with the New England Patriots a little more interesting.
