Tim Tebow is still the hottest topic surrounding the New York Jets this season, with their early 2-3 start and the struggles of starting quarterback Mark Sanchez just fueling the fire. Some have wondered if Tim Tebow is destined for just a short stay in New York, but Woody Johnson made it clear the Tim Tebow is here to stay. Making sure to toe the line, Woody Johnson was also supportive of Mark Sanchez.
The New York Jets traded for Tim Tebow this offseason, with outsiders speculating whether it was a football move or a bottom line move to attract attention and the back pages. Tim Tebow has probably been underused to this point, with the struggling Jets offense in need of a spark and Tim Tebow being a playmaker that can create something out of nothing. There has been talk of the Jets possibly trading Tim Tebow after this season. Jets owner Woody Johnson shot that down, telling CNBC that Tim Tebow will finish out his contract with the Jets.
“Are we going to keep Tebow? Absolutely. He'll be with us for three years… I think he’s going to be a real valuable asset in terms of helping us win games.”
Maybe this is nitpicking, but can Woody Johnson just refer to Tim Tebow as a player? He added "in terms of helping us win games" to the statement, and players are referred to as "assets" all the time, but with the scrutiny surrounding whether Tim Tebow was a football move or a revenue move it would be nice to see him described in football-centric terms.
Tim Tebow has completed one pass for nine yards and rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries, a 4.1 yard per carry average. Jason Hill dropped a long pass from Tim Tebow in Monday's loss to the Houston Texans, a well-thrown ball that would have been a big gain. The Jets sprinkled in more Tim Tebow on Monday night than in previous games and that trend is likely to continue. The Jets need to use some gimmicks and Tim Tebow is the ultimate weapon for those kinds of plays.
