The New York Jets have found a way to piece together a 3-3 start, putting them in position to play for first place in the AFC East this weekend against the New England Patriots. Given the major injuries the team has suffered it's a nice surprise that they're in this position, everyone now wants to know if they can pull off the upset. The Jets have been torched by the Patriots before with Darrelle Revis on the field, how can they match up with the New England receivers without him?
Rex Ryan has a tall task ahead of him in trying to contain Tom Brady on Sunday without the best cornerback on the planet, Darrelle Revis, at his service. Let's take a look at how he can cover all of the weapons New England has to offer:
Antonio Cromartie on Brandon Lloyd: Antonio Cromartie doesn't do well against smaller, stop-and-go wide receivers like Wes Welker. Brandon Lloyd is a better matchup for Cromartie, who has been dominant the past two weeks against big time wide receivers Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Count on another big day from Antonio Cromartie.
Kyle Wilson on Wes Welker: Kyle Wilson is getting better, and now it's time to step up. He's sued to covering slot receivers as a nickel corner, so he should be used to shifty players and has the best shot at containing Wes Welker. Is it an ideal matchup? Of course not. The Jets would much rather have Darrelle Revis following Wes Welker around the field.
LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell on Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez: The Jets new safeties opened their mouths and said they felt they could hang with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Now it's time to put up or shut up. The Jets are much better-equipped at the safety position than last year, now we'll see if it pays off.
Pressure: The key to beating Tom Brady is pressure. The Patriots offensive line isn't what it used to be and the Jets' front seven heated up Andrew Luck last week. The Jets have to get bodies around Tom Brady and get some shots on him to have a chance at slowing down the Patriots offense. Quinton Coples, Muhammad Wilkerson and Aaron Maybin will play big roles on Sunday.
