The New York Jets have signed Antonio Allen once again. Antonio Allen was sitting on their practice squad, having been jockeyed back and forth this season after being drafted by the team in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. Donnie Fletcher was signed to the practice squad.

The New York Jets have brought back safety Antonio Allen, after a curious move to cut him on November 6, during the bye week. Antonio Allen was active for weeks six through eight, recording a sack against the Indianapolis Colts and recovering a fumble against the New England Patriots. With such limited play time and a few big plays, it was somewhat surprising to see the Jets remove him from the active roster.

Most agree that the Jets got a great value when they grabbed Antonio Allen in the seventh round. He was projected by many to go much higher, and was impressive throughout the offseason and preseason. When given the chance in the regular season, he has provided big plays. With the future of the safety position in question given the status of LaRon Landry and the aging Yeremiah Bell, both pending free agents, the Jets would be wise to keep Antonio Allen around.

It will be interesting to see how (if) Antonio Allen will be utilized this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is a nice fit on special teams as a good athlete and solid tackler, and has shown the ability to blitz from the secondary and get to the quarterback. Antonio Allen will probably need to improve his coverage skills if he wants to eventually find a spot as a full-time starter, but he should be able to fill an important role.
