New York Jets rookie defensive lineman Quinton Coples has been fined by the NFL for grabbing the facemask of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne last week. The NFL hit Quinton Coples with a $15,000 fine for the facemask penalty he incurred while trying to wrap up the quarterback. Some Jets fans are probably just happy to see the team's first round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft around the quarterback, but this isn't the first time Quinton Coples has had difficulty keeping his hands away from the quarterback's head.
The New York Jets drafted Quinton Coples in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft to get after the quarterback, but they would probably rather he keep his hands away from the quarterback's head. Quinton Coples has been hit with a few facemask and roughing the passer penalties already in his young career, hurting his team with 15-yard penalties and putting a dent in his bank account as well. Quinton Coples was fined $15,000 by the NFL today for a facemask penalty he took against Chad Henne and the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
Quinton Coples has three sacks this season to go along with 22 tackles overall. Not blistering numbers, but he also hasn't seen as much playing time as originally expected. He has proven that he has the ability to get to the quarterback. Now the Jets would like it to become a more common occurrence.
Four other NFL players were also hit with fines today: New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara, Detroit Lions offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus, Chicago bears cornerback Charles Tillman and St. Louis Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan.
