The New York Jets do have some viable playoff scenarios, a fact that surely leaves some scratching their heads. After last week's in over the Jacksonville Jaguars we wrote that we would try to refrain from the playoff madness, but there is too much confusion and too many questions about the playoff situation to continue to ignore it. So, we'll help you out and fill you in on who to root for tomorrow.
Even though the New York Jets don't take on the Tennessee Titans until Monday night, it will be a stressful Sunday for those still clinging to green and white playoff hopes. The Jets need some help, but it's not unthinkable that things could fall their way. Of course, it's all contingent on the Jets handling their own business these last three weeks of the season.
To start, it's not necessarily a bad thing that the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. The Jets want a three-way tie with the Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers at 9-7, as a simple head-to-head with the Steelers would leave them out in the cold. It does mean that the Jets will want a Bengals win over the Steelers next week then a Bengals loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.
The Jets will be rooting hard for the Dallas Cowboys to top the Steelers tomorrow. The Cowboys are banged up, with Dez Bryant trying to play through an injured finger and Morris Claiborne dealing with a concussion, but it's a talented group playing a Pittsburgh team that hasn't looked so hot lately. A Dallas win would really make a playoff berth a real possibility going into the last two weeks.
The Jets will also be pulling for the Houston Texans tomorrow. It's pretty unlikely, but the Jets could also sneak in if the Indianapolis Colts were to end up in a tie with the Jets at 9-7. The Colts, being 9-4 right now, would have to lose their last three games. This week and the last week of the regular season they face the Texans, so that could definitely go right for the Jets. Next week they face the Kansas City Chiefs.
So, here's the breakdown for tomorrow. Root for the Cowboys to knock off the Steelers. Then, hope that the Texans can knock off the Colts, and maybe a little hangover from the loss spills into next week's game against the Chiefs for Indianapolis.
Then the really hard part has to be done: the Jets need to take care of business against the Titans.
