Despite the New York Jets lacking a general manager, currently with interviews starting Friday and over the weekend to fill that position, they did sign an even "baker's" dozen players, mostly former practice squad players to future/reserve contracts this week. Phil Simms' son Matt was brought back again at quarterback.
Quarterback: Matt Simms
Wide receivers: Royce Pollard, Titus Ryan, Joseph Collins and Emmanuel Arceneaux
Offensive tackle: Dennis Landolt
Long snapper: Travis Tripucka
Defensive tackle: Tevita Finau
Defensive end: Claude Davis
Linebackers: JoJo Dickson and Jacquies Smith
Safeties: Brett Lockett and Jaiquwan Jarrett
Of all the 13 players signed to future/reserve contracts all but Arceneaux, Davis, Lockett, Jarrett and Tripucka spent time with the Jets during the course of 2012. Quite a few quality players with high salaries in 2013 will have to be cut or traded away for the Jets to try to be able to field a team that can compete better than the last two seasons. Considering that the Jets will be up against the cap, if not well over it, going into trying to shape the 2013 roster any or all of these players could be counted upon to contribute at the tail end of the 53 man roster.
