Bill Parcells should have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year. He was deserving of the honor of being a first ballot enshrinee, and he deserved to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with one of his most beloved players, New York Jets running back Curtis Martin. That wasn't in the cards last year, as Curtis Martin was enshrined and Bill Parcells wasn't, but the Pro Football Hall of Fame can make things right today by inducting Bill Parcells.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will Class of 2013 will be announced today at 5:30 p.m. at the Super Bowl Media Center in New Orleans. For former New York Jets head coach Bill Parcells, it should be his turn to get that call and join the greatest to ever work in the game of football.

There are 17 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. Two of them are senior nominees (Curley Culp and Dave Robinson). Five of the 15 other finalists can be inducted this year. The selection process is a made-for-tv event now, as the field is cut from 15 to 10 before the selections are announced. Bill Parcells was among the group of 10 finalists but was not inducted last year.

Fellow nominees Cris Carter, Andre Reed, Aeneas Williams and Charles Haley were also among the group that made the cut down to 10 last year but didn't get the call to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. They are joined by Jerome Bettis, Jonathan Ogden, Will Shields, Michael Strahan, Warren Sapp, Tim Brown, Larry Allen, Kevin Greene, Edward Debartolo, Jr., Art Modell, Curley Culp and Dave Robinson. Ogden, Strahan, Sapp and Allen are all first-time nominees.

Bill Parcells is best-remembered for his time with the New York Giants, leading the franchise to two Super Bowl wins. He also led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl, before taking over as Jets head coach in 1996. The following season, Curtis martin joined him with the Jets after Bill Parcells had drafted him when he was coaching the Patriots. Curtis Martin was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year and asked Bill Parcells to present him. Now, it's time for Bill Parcells to join him.
