Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum took the fall for the team's recent failures, but has since been making the media round, including with the NFL Network. Since beginning his interview tour just a short while ago, Mike Tannenbaum has already made some interesting comments, some noteworthy for Jets fans. He commented on Mark Sanchez, saying he wouldn't have given him a contract extension if he though Sanchez was going to turn the ball over 26 times in 2012. Tannenbaum also said that he would take Russell Wilson over Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick. Finally, Mike Tannenbaum believes Tim Tebow will either succeed as an NFL quarterback or "die trying."
Mike Tannenbaum hasn't been under the radar since starting up his new gig on the NFL Network. The former New York Jets general manager has made some comments that have grabbed headlines, including some on topics involving his former team. The move that likely finished off his tenure with the Jets – the Mark Sanchez contract extension – is one of those topics.
Mike Tannenbaum said on NFL Network, "I don't think I'd sign a quarterback to an extension knowing he'd have 26 turnovers."
Thanks for the clarification, Mike. However, it is your job to forecast that player's potential and how he is expected to develop over the course of the contract, right? Mark Sanchez did have 26 turnovers the season before the extension as well. While many were hoping to see Mark Sanchez turn the corner in 2013, it simply didn't happen and that move looks like a bad one.
Tim Tebow couldn't be left out, so Mike Tannenbaum also spoke about his take on Tebow as an NFL quarterback:
"This is a guy that was successful in high school, won championships in college. He's the type of person, he's either going to be successful as a pro quarterback, or die trying."
That's something that has endeared Tim Tebow to so many. His iron will makes him a good football player and has carried him to the success he has had in the sport. If he's going to succeed, it will be that attitude and willingness to work that gets him there.
Finally, Mike Tannenbaum gave his take on the young quarterbacks in the NFL. He picked Russell Wilson as his favorite over Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick. That's not the general consensus on that group, so maybe that's why Mike Tannenbaum is making the rounds on television instead of prepping for the 2013 NFL Draft. Tough to knock him though, everyone always said he was a bean counter instead of a talent evaluator.
