Round 1

O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

6’6″ – 251 lbs

40 Time – 4.51

Mock Part 1: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Mock Part 2: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

There will probably be a lot of negative feedback for this pick, but either way, here is our logic. It seems like Mike Maccagnan is full steam ahead with Christian Hackenberg as his quarterback. This makes it unlikely that we go for a quarterback at 6. Some of the names that are out there in connection to us, are cornerback Lattimore, free safety Hooker, strong safety/free safety Adams, inside linebacker Foster and tight end OJ Howard. Foster and Lattimore are injury risks, so we are taking them off our list. Adams will most likely be taken in the top 5. This leaves Hooker and Howard. Hooker is a great centerfielder, and would be a great addition to a team that plays a lot of single high safety. This isn’t us though. Bowles would much rather have a safety like Adams. We can find that safety later in the draft. This leaves Howard. A bruiting tight end, that is both a great blocker and a mismatch nightmare fore defenses. Tight end hasn’t been a valuable position in the last few years, but with a new offensive coordinator in town, things can change quick. I think Macc will do everything possible to try and trade out of the 6th spot, but if we are forced to pick, Howard is the guy we chose.

Round 2

Derek Rivers, Edge, Youngstown

6’4″ – 248 lbs

40 time – 4.61

Mock Part 1: Taco Charlton, Edge, Michigan

Mock Part 2: David Njoku, TE, Miami

This year’s edge class is one of the deepest we have seen in a while. Even though we weren’t in the best position to grab one at 6, we are in the perfect position to grab a very good edge in the 2nd. Rivers was mostly an unknown to the general public before the Senior Bowl. That whole week of practice, the scouting world took notice of what Rivers could do against better competition. He dominated in preparation and then dominated in the game. There is nothing flukey about Rivers. He is a well put together machine that can be a menace on the edge for years to come as a Jet. Once you get over …
