For this week’s #PickSix, i’ll be going in the trenches to rank six offensive and defensive linemen in the 2017 NFL Draft the New York Jets could target. Some may think they don’t need to add players on either side, but this is a team that could stand to add depth. For clarification, this will not include EDGEs because to me, that has evolved into its own position groupâ?¦
1. Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama
Stats: 78 tackles, 44.5 tackles for a loss, 28 sacks
Why He Could Be The Pick: Best defensive lineman in the draft, would replace Muhammed Wilkerson if the Jets are able to find a trade partner for him.
Why He Won’t Be The Pick: No one is taking Wilkerson’s contract, and adding Allen to Williams is a poor allocation of resources.
2. Montravius Adams, DT, Auburn
Stats: 77 tackles, 19.5 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks
Why He Could Be The Pick: Wouldn’t cost the 6th pick and would be an upgrade over Steve McLendon and Dion Simon.
Why He Won’t Be The Pick: Jets seem intent on giving Simon every chance to take the NT position, and they also signed former Packers NT Mike Pennel.
